Shipping

ORDER CONFIRMATION
I will contact you within 24 hours to acknowledge receipt of your order and to let you know when it will be shipped.

ORDER PROCESSING
Most orders are packed and dispatched within 1-2 working days unless otherwise advised in the listing. For custom orders, the processing time will be agreed with you before the order is accepted.

SHIPPING
UK orders are shipped by Royal Mail first-class post. Higher value items (above £20) and overseas orders are usually shipped by Royal Mail Signed (UK) or Tracked - the cost of this is included in the standard shipping costs shown.
Optional upgrades (for UK deliveries only) are available on request:
RM Special Delivery (1pm) - this guarantees delivery on the next working day (Mon-Fri) before 1pm, excluding bank holidays.
RM Special Delivery (1pm, Sat) - this is a guaranteed Saturday delivery before 1pm (for orders shipped on Friday).

DELIVERY TIMES
I can give an average or estimated delivery time for your order, but can't guarantee a delivery date. If the delivery date is important, please contact me before ordering. While most packages do arrive within the estimated time, some can take considerably longer. Actual delivery times depend on shipping method, customs clearance, holidays and local conditions. You should allow up to 3 weeks for UK deliveries and up to 6 weeks for overseas deliveries, depending on your location. At busy times of the year there may be longer delays clearing customs in some countries. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you are concerned about your order.

CUSTOMS/IMPORT FEES
Customs declarations for overseas shipments will disclose the actual sales value of the goods as shown on the invoice/delivery note. Please do not ask me to mark orders as 'gifts' on the customs declaration, as this is not allowed and would be fraudulent.

**IMPORTANT**: International BUYERS are responsible for all customs charges, local taxes, import VAT, handling fees or any other import charges levied. Some countries also have restrictions on importing certain goods - it is the BUYER's responsibility to check the import rules and fees that apply in their own country before ordering. I cannot be held responsible for goods confiscated, destroyed or returned by customs.

SHIPPING COSTS
I offer 'free shipping' on some smaller items in the UK, but otherwise shipping costs are based on the estimated weight and size of your order. I always try to ship orders in the most cost-effective way, so multiple orders may occasionally arrive in separate packages. Any material overage of shipping costs on multiple orders will be refunded.
Please note that the 'shipping cost' charged also includes a nominal amount for packaging and a small uplift to cover Etsy's fees and commission on shipping costs.

Privacy

This Privacy Policy describes how and when I collect, use, and share information when you purchase an item from me, contact me, or otherwise use my services through Etsy.com or its related sites and services.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that I do not own or control, including Etsy or any third party services you access through Etsy. You can reference the Etsy Privacy Policy to learn more about its privacy practices.

1. Information I Collect
To fulfil your order, you must provide me with certain information (which you authorised Etsy to provide to me), such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order, for example) if you contact me directly.

2. Why I Need Your Information & How I Use It
I rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:
- as needed to provide my services, such as when I use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;
- when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list;
- if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and
- as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as (i) providing and improving my services - I use your information to provide the services you requested and in my legitimate interest to improve my services; and (ii) compliance with the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use - I use your information as necessary to comply with my obligations under the Etsy Seller Policy and Terms of Use.

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
Information about my customers is important to my business. I share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:
Etsy - I share information with Etsy as necessary to provide you with my services and to comply with my obligations under both the Etsy Seller Policy and Etsy Terms of Use.
Service providers - I engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. I will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.
Business transfers - If I sell or merge my business, I may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.
Compliance with laws - I may collect, use, retain, and share your information if I have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to:
(a) respond to legal process or to government requests;
b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies;
(c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or
(d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

4. Data Retention
I retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in my Privacy Policy. However, I may also be required to retain this information to comply with my legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce my agreements. I generally keep your data for the following time periods: 7 years.

5. Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU
I may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, I may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If I am deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, I rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as Google Cloud is Privacy Shield certified.

6. Your Rights
If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below:
Access - you may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information I hold about you by contacting me using the contact information below.
Change, restrict, delete - you may also have rights to change, restrict my use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where I am required to store data for legal reasons) I will generally delete your personal information upon request.
Object - you can object to (i) my processing of some of your information based on my legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, I will delete your personal information unless I have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.
Complain - if you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about my use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

How to Contact Me
For purposes of EU data protection law, I, Christine Shephard, am the data controller of your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me by sending an email to: ciessetextiles [!at] btinternet.com, or by post to:
Christine Shephard, 24 Trinity Way, Littlehampton, BN17 5SS, United Kingdom.

Please note: If you wish to access, correct or delete personal information held by Etsy, you should send a request directly to Etsy.
See this Seller Handbook article for a sample privacy policy you can customize for your shop.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take to process my order?

I will contact you within 24 hours to acknowledge receipt of your order and let you know the expected shipping date.

Most orders are shipped within 1-2 working days unless they are made-to-order or custom-made.

How will my order be shipped and when will I receive it?

UK orders are shipped by Royal Mail first-class post; overseas orders are shipped by Royal Mail airmail. Higher value orders (above £20) are usually shipped by a tracked or signed-for service as standard. Optional postage upgrades are available at checkout.

Average delivery times:
UK 1-3 days; Europe 1-2 weeks; USA/Canada 1-3 weeks; RoW 2-4 weeks.

Delivery times vary by country and I can only give an estimate. If the delivery date is important, please contact me before ordering.
Most orders arrive within the estimated time but they can take longer and you should allow up to 3 weeks for UK orders and 6 weeks for overseas orders, depending on your location. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you are concerned about your order.

What about customs/import fees?

Customs declarations for overseas/non-EU orders will disclose the invoice value of the goods. Please do not ask me to mark orders as 'gifts' on the customs declaration, as this is not allowed and would be fraudulent.

**IMPORTANT**: International BUYERS are responsible for all customs charges, local taxes, VAT, handling fees or any other import charges levied. Some countries also have restrictions on importing certain goods - it is the BUYER's responsibility to check the import rules and fees that apply in their own country before ordering. I cannot be held liable for goods confiscated, destroyed or returned by customs.

What do I do if my order gets damaged in the post?

If you receive damaged or faulty goods, please contact me immediately. I want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase and will work with you to put right any problems.

Under UK/EU consumer law, if goods are damaged or faulty when you receive them, you have 30 days in which to return them for a full refund. After 30 days you may still be entitled to claim a repair or refund but other terms apply.

It may be necessary to provide evidence of damage, so please keep the original packaging. Photos of the damage to goods and packaging may be requested in the event of a claim.

How do I return goods if I need to?

Under UK/EU consumer law, you have the right to cancel your order before it has shipped, or within 14 days of receipt of goods, and receive a full refund.

Please message me or e-mail me before returning an item.

Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If goods are not returned in their original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. I recommend obtaining proof of posting, tracking or insurance in case they are lost or damaged in transit. For International returns, please mark the package clearly as 'Returned Goods'.

Refunds will be given within 14 days of receipt of returned goods.

These rights do not apply to custom-made, personalised or bespoke items unless the goods are faulty/damaged.

What happens if my order doesn't turn up?

Occasionally packages are delayed in the post or at customs. Please be patient - it's very rare that packages are actually lost, so there's a good chance your order will eventually arrive.

The postal system gets very busy around holiday periods, so do allow extra time for goods to arrive, or consider upgrading to a priority service. I usually allow up to 3-4 weeks for UK orders and 6-8 weeks for international orders before refunding for non-delivery.

Custom and personalised orders

I'm always happy to discuss custom orders, so please message me if you would like something made in a different size or another fabric.

Many of the fabrics I use are vintage or limited availability, so it may not be possible to repeat an item or use the same fabric for something else. However, I do have a large stock of fabrics and may be able to suggest an alternative.

Handmade fabrics, such as my handmade felts and hand-dyed silks, are generally not repeatable, but it may be possible to create something similar - not always immediately, but sometimes special things are worth the wait.

Orders as gifts/optional gift-wrap/gift message

If you tick the box at checkout for 'this item is a gift', it means the price will not be shown on the packing slip. This allows the recipient to know where it was purchased but not how much you paid for it.

Ticking this box does NOT mean I will declare the contents as a 'gift' on the customs form (see FAQ above on customs fees), and the customs form will still show the value for customs purposes for destinations outside the EU.

If you would like to add gift-wrapping to your order, or would like a personal message/gift card included, please tick the 'gift' box at checkout and then select the gift-wrap and/or gift message option.
